Brazilian striker Amauri scored the only goal of the match after 48 minutes as he drilled a low shot past goalkeeper Alex Calderoni.

It was Amauri's third goal in a week and his fifth of the season.

In the earlier match, high-flying Catania move up to second in the Serie A table, behind leaders Inter Milan, as they drew 1-1 at Siena.

Siena took a deserved lead when second-half substitute Emanuele Calaio headed in a cross from Cristiano Del Grosso with just 15 minutes remaining.

But the celebrations did not last long as Catania was awarded a penalty just five minutes later after Michele Paolucci was brought down by Gianluca Curci.

Giuseppe Mascara put away the resulting penalty, sending Curci the wrong way.
