Reigning champions Manchester United and opponents Villarreal are through to the last 16 of the Champions League after a dull goalless draw at El Madrigal.
For the fourth time in four meetings, this pair failed to collect a goal between them.
Cristiano Ronaldo nearly broke the deadlock though, but saw his powerful drive pushed onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Diego Lopez.
Joan Capdevila was sent off in the closing stages for a studs up challenge on Ronaldo as the Spain international caught the United star on the inside of the knee.
Celtic failed to break their hoodoo in the Champions League as they were beaten 2-1 at Aalborg, although the result from El Madrigal means the Scottish champions would have been out even if they had won.
Barry Robson gave Celtic the lead in the 53rd minute as he powered home a a superb header beyond Karim Zaza and into the bottom corner.
But Cacá drew Aalborg level 17 minutes from time before Gary Caldwell turned the ball into his own net in the closing minutes to ensure their miserable away run in the competition continued.

Bayern Munich are also through to the knockout stages with a 3-0 victory over Steaua Bucharest.
After being frustrated by the visitors throughout the first half, Bayern finally broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Miroslav Klose smashed the ball home after Massimo Oddo's cross was flicked on by Franck Ribéry.
The Germany international then turned into provider as he flicked the ball into the area for Luca Toni to dive and nod home.
Klose then wrapped the game up with his second 19 minutes from time.
Lyon won 2-1 in Florence against Fiorentina to ensure their place in the Champions League last 16.
The French champions raced into a 2-0 lead as Jean Makoun and Karim Benzema put them in control with goals in the first 27 minutes.
Fiorentina pulled one back on the stroke of half-time through Alberto Gilardino, but it was not enough.

Arsenal put their recent troubles behind and marched into the knockout stages as they beat Dynamo Kyiv 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
Former skipper William Gallas nearly gifted Kyiv the lead but striker Ismael Bangoura hit the post after the Frenchman had inadvertently put him through on goal.
Gallas then somehow failed to turn the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble at the start of the second period.
Newly-appointed skipper Cesc Fàbregas was the architect of the controversial winner in the 87th minute as he launched a drop-ball downfield when Kyiv players were expecting him to play it back to their keeper.
The pass was flighted right into the path of substitute Nicklas Bendtner, who chested it down and fired it home past Stanislav Bogush.
Even then Kyiv claimed Bendtner controlled the ball with his hand,but referee Alain Hamer ruled in Arsenal’s favour.
The visitors' frustrations boiled over in the closing seconds and Olexandr Aliyev was dismissed for pushing the referee.

Olof Mellberg and Vincenzo Iaquinta both struck the woodwork for Juve while Zenit striker Pavel Pogrebnyak also saw his curling effort hit the post.
Alessandro Del Piero had a glorious opportunity to win the match but sent his shot wide of the post.
The defeat dumped the Russians back into the UEFA Cup where they will at least be able to defend their title.

Real icon Raúl kept up his incredible scoring run in the Champions League as he reached a personal landmark with his 64th goal in European club competition, joining AC Milan's Filippo Inzaghi as the continent's leading scorer.
Raúl scored the only goal of the match when he finished a dangerous ball across the box from Royston Drenthe after just seven minutes.
