Benzema dreams of Real Madrid

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Lyon forward Karim Benzema has stated that he promised his mother he would play for Real Madrid one day.

Benzema continues to be linked with a move away from Lyon, despite putting pen to paper on a new big-money contract set to keep him at Stade de Gerland until 2013.

The 21-year-old has already become a hit in France after scoring over 40 goals for his club and country over the past two seasons, and it seems almost certain now that he will move on next summer.

Despite recently signing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Real are desperate for another striker with Ruud van Nistelrooy ruled out for the rest of the season.

"My dream is to play for Real Madrid," he told Le Buteur. "It is a dream that is coming closer little by little.

"I like Real's white shirt, the stadium, the atmosphere that exists around the Bernabéu...

"I told my mother that one day, I will play for Real and I want that to come true."

However, the main obstacle to any move could be Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas, who stated last month that a club 'would have to pay over €100 million' for Benzema.
