Gilardino eyes Capocannonieri title

Friday, December 5, 2008

Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino has set his eye on the Capocannonieri chart in Serie A and believes he can finish this season as the top goalscorer.

His move from AC Milan to Fiorentina in the summer has resurrected his career.

The 26-year-old has reinvented himself at the Viola and is a completely different player under Cesare Prandelli.

Gilardino man has hit 13 goals in all competitions this season with nine of those have been in Serie A.

"I want to win this season's Capocannonieri award," Gilardino told Tuttosport.

"I have many objectives this term and one of those is finishing as the best striker in the League.

"Scoring 20 goals without any penalties would be good, but if I have to take a spot-kick to win the Golden Boot then I will.

"My best goal so far was the one against Juventus on the first day of the season.

"There's lots of competition. Diego Milito is very good and Marco Di Vaio has found his confidence. Then there's Alessandro Del Piero, Francesco Totti and Zlatan Ibrahimović."

Genoa hitman Milito currently is currently leading the Capocannonieri chart with 11 goals.
