Injuries have slowed Alessandro Nesta down in the past few years, but the AC Milan defender insists that he will return to the pitch soon.

The former Lazio captain has been unable to make a contribution to the Rossoneri cause this term due to injury problems.

There have been suggestions that the 32-year-old could be headed for retirement, but Nesta has no intention of hanging up his boots as he has made a lot of progress during his rehabilitation time in Miami and now feels fully motivated for his return to Serie A.

"I will be back in Italy on January 14 and the day after that I will be back at Milanello for physical preparations," Nesta told Il Giornale.

"I know everything that is happening in Italy as I keep in touch and know exactly what is written. I know that you journalists have been predicting the worst and have said that I will never recover physically.

"However, the work I have done has paid off. I worked hard during these weeks and I am ready to return to Italy. I will not end my career yet."
