Olympic legend to train Young and Agbonlahor

Friday, January 2, 2009

Legendary American sprinter Michael Johnson has invited Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor to join him for coaching sessions in Dallas — with the aim of making them even faster.

The speedy Aston Villa pair caught Johnson's eye when he was invited to watch a Villa training session by manager Martin O'Neill.

And Johnson, who won four Olympic gold medals over 200m and 400m, has bad news for the rest of the Premier League teams as he believes he can inject even more pace into the pair.

"Both players have speed which helps them stand out from the rest of the players," said Johnson. "However they can still improve by a significant margin, so I suggested to Martin O’Neill that they come to Dallas in the summer with me to go to Johnson’s Sprint Academy in Texas."

England boss Fabio Capello has been told of the possibility of the trip and has given the go-ahead for his two England fliers to go to Dallas.

Agbonlahor, 22, is the quickest player on Villa’s books but Young, 23, isn’t far behind over short distances.
