Jô seals Everton switch

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Everton have signed Manchester City flop Jô on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Brazilian joined City in the summer as the club's record buy when they forked out £18 million to land him from Russian side CSKA Moscow, where he scored 44 goals in 77 matches.

However, the 6'3" striker has failed to make any sort of impact in England, and has featured only 18 times for the Citizens this season, while the last of his three City goals came in September.

He has fallen further down the pecking order following the arrival of Craig Bellamy from West Ham and Mark Hughes has allowed him to head to Goodison Park.

Everton boss David Moyes, who has little money to spend, has been hunting for a short-term striker since the start of January, with Yakubu and James Vaughan out for the rest of the season with long-term injuries, Louis Saha struggling with a damaged hamstring and Victor Anichebe having only recently shaken off back trouble.

Moyes has even been forced to play midfielder Tim Cahill up front in recent weeks, although the Australian has been successful in his new role.
