Alves rubbishes Chelsea rumours

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

Barcelona defender Daniel Alves has dismissed reports linking him with a big-money move to Chelsea in the summer.

The Blues had three bids for Alves turned down in 2007 when he was at Sevilla and the defender publically stated he wanted to move to Stamford Bridge.

Alves made the move to Barcelona last summer and has been a key figure in the Catalans' impressive campaign.

His performances have reportedly again caught the attention of Chelsea, with reports in the British press claiming the West London outfit were ready to tempt the 25-year-old away from Camp Nou.

However, Alves' media representatives released a statement on Tuesday afternoon denying an article published in the Daily Mirror newspaper in which sources close to the player revealed he wishes to move to London.

"Daniel Alves knows about the interest of the London club today through the article in the ... tabloid," read the statement.

"A denial is important in order to not give the wrong impression on this matter."
