Italy and Udinese forward Antonio Di Natale does not require surgery to treat his left knee, but his season is still over.

The 31-year-old was stretchered off the pitch in Italy's 2-0 win at Montenegro on Saturday.

He damaged the cruciate ligament in his left knee as he slipped away from the ball on a wet pitch.

Initially, Udinese doctors expected Di Natale's recovery to require up to six months but later test point out that the player should be fit after three months.

The injury is likely to keep Di Natale sidelined for the last nine Serie A matches and the UEFA Cup.

It is unclear whether he will be available for the Confederations Cup featuring world champions Italy in June in South Africa.
