David Bentley in talks with Aston Villa

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

David Bentley has admitted that he has been in talks with Aston Villa for the last fortnight in a bid to end his nightmare spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old joined his boyhood team Spurs from Blackburn Rovers for £16 million last summer but failed to command a regular first-team place.

His absence from the Tottenham line-up has also seen him lose his place in the England squad as he did not start a Premier League match for the final four months of the season.

"I’m in talks with Villa at the moment," Bentley told The Sun.

"I really don't want to say much more. But we'll see what happens. I'm hopeful of sorting it out as soon as possible."

The North London club would be forced to accept a significant loss on the player, with £7 million touted as a possible fee.

However, rumours have surfaced that boss Harry Redknapp is willing to offer Bentley and Jermaine Jenas in exchange for Ashley Young.
