Barcelona send Keirrison to Benfica on loan

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Just days after signing for Barcelona, Brazilian starlet Keirrison has been shipped out on loan to Benfica for a season-long stint.

The 20-year-old recently completed a €14 million move to the Catalan giants from Palmeiras, but he faces fierce competition for places at the Camp Nou.

With Zlatan Ibrahimović having recently joined, the club also have strikers Thierry Henry, Lionel Messi and Bojan Krkić on their books.

As a result, it has been decided that Keirrison would be better served spending a season in Portugal.

"I am very happy, Benfica are a big club that everyone knows," Keirrison told Globoesporte.

"Besides, playing in Portugal will make my adjustment to European football easier because of the language and also because of the many Brazilians that play in the team."
