Leonardo: Luís Fabiano wouldn't be a gamble

Monday, July 20, 2009

AC Milan coach Leonardo insists signing striker Luís Fabiano "would not be a gamble" for the Rossoneri, should the club secure his services from Sevilla.

Milan saw their initial bid of €14 million turned down by the Spanish club last week.

The Brazil international has made it very clear he wants to move to the San Siro, but Milan are playing hard ball.

However, Leonardo remains optimistic about the deal and believes Fabiano will prove to be a good signing for the Serie A giants.

He told the club website: "Luís Fabiano would not be a gamble because he could have already been mature at 23 years old.

"We are talking about a good player. He is the striker of the Brazilian national team.

"What is missing for him is to play at a big club.

"If he does not arrive, then we will see. Milan don't turn to the transfer market just to buy a name.

"If we sign a player, it’s because he is useful for improving the team, otherwise we may as well stick with what we’ve got. We have a good squad and are in no hurry."
