Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour has presented each player of his squad with a watch worth a whopping £168,000.

According to The Sun, the Sky Blues squad were handed the special edition Franck Muller timepieces during a royal reception at Sheikh Mansour's palace in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Big money signings Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tévez were all in attendance, perhaps being granted an indication of what can be expected in bonuses should this side land a major honour this season.

"Manchester City's players are now the most pampered on earth, and they were greeted like kings," a club source told the newspaper.

The Citizens spent the night in the five-star Emirates Palace Hotel and will fly to South Africa for the Vodacom Challenge pre-Premiership season warm-up. They will play Orlando Pirates at Polokwane, then Kaizer Chiefs in Durban on Tuesday.

Manager Mark Hughes named a 28-man squad for the tour, including Robinho and Elano who will join up next week following summer international commitments.

Update: Manchester City have denied the report, claiming the players did not meet Sheikh Mansour as they spent their day fulfilling a host of engagements on behalf of new club sponsors Etihad.
