A 12-year-old given professional debut in Bolivia

Monday, July 20, 2009

A 12-year-old boy became the youngest player ever to debut in professional football when he featured for Aurora in a Bolivian Clausura championship match on Sunday.

Mauricio Baldivieso entered the match against FC La Paz in 39th minute, sent into the fray by his father and club coach Julio César Baldivieso, a former Bolivian international striker.

He had a somewhat brutal introduction to the professional game as he picked up an ankle knock within five minutes from a violent tackle by La Paz's Henry Alaca.

On the verge of crying, the boy got up. And after being treated by his side's medical team, he was able to complete the match.

But too bad for Mauricio, his team lost 0-1.

The previous record was held by Peruvian Fernando García, who debuted in 2001 at 13 years and 11 months as Juan Aurich player.
