Jérôme Rothen suspended for criticising club

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Paris St Germain winger Jérôme Rothen has been suspended for seven and a half days for criticising the club's management in a recent interview.

The 30-year-old had told sports daily L'Équipe on June 1 that he could not play for the club under their current management.

The club called a meeting with Rothen on Friday to ask the France international to explain himself.

PSG have now announced Rothen, who was jeered by fans when he resumed training last week, will be able to join back up with his team-mates on Saturday.

"Following the meeting they had with Jerome Rothen last Friday, the Paris St Germain board have decided to suspend him for seven and a half days, until the night of July 10," read a statement on www.psg.fr.

"This punishment follows on from the comments made by Jerome Rothen in the June 1 issue of the daily L'Équipe .

"The past has thus been settled and Jerome Rothen will rejoin his team-mates at the training camp at Port-Crouesty from July 11."
