Andrés Iniesta hails departed Samuel Eto'o

Friday, August 7, 2009

Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta has moved to praise former team-mate Samuel Eto’o, claiming Barça should erect a stature for the Cameroonian.

Eto'o has left the Catalan giants in a swap deal that saw Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimović move to the Blaugrana.

The former African Player of the Year moved to the Camp Nou as the club endured a six-year trophy drought but led their resurgence, winning three La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies and the Copa del Rey.

"Samuel must be remembered for the player that he was," Iniesta told La Vanguardia.

"History shows that this club has had very few strikers like him. I do not know if there has ever been anyone like him before.

"What I do know is that Barcelona should erect a stature for him.

"Samuel was a fundamental player here in recent years and was key to all of the titles that the team won."
