Former Real Madrid star signs on with Blackburn

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Spanish right-back Míchel Salgado has joined Blackburn Rovers on a two-year deal after spending 10 years with Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old moves to Ewood Park as a free agent having his contract with the Spanish giants cancelled by mutual consent earlier this month.

"I want to enjoy the next two years, playing in the Premier League. It is one of the best in the world," Salgado told www.rovers.co.uk.

"Not only that it is pure football - fantastic games and a fantastic atmosphere. This will be a good experience for me, my wife and children. I have joined a historic club."

Blackburn are now waiting for international clearance before the Spaniard can make his debut.

Salgado will head back to Madrid next week to say goodbye at a match arranged in his honour against Rosenborg on Monday.

In a ten year spell at the Bernabéu, he won four La Liga titles, three Spanish Super Cups, two Champions League crowns, the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.
