Barcelona dominated possession away from home and should have opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes, but Zlatan Ibrahimović skewed his volley wide when bearing down on goal.
And Daniel Alves provided the miss of the game from just six yards after Thierry Henry had drilled the ball into the danger zone.
