La Liga: Atlético Madrid 2-1 Real Zaragoza

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Atlético Madrid picked up their first league win of the season after seeing off Real Zaragoza 2-1 at the Vicente Calderón.

José Manuel Jurado put Atlético ahead after just two minutes when he curled his shot into the corner of the net from just inside the area.

The visitors missed a great chance to draw level on 20 minutes when David de Gea superbly pushed away Marko Babić's spot-kick after Jorge López was felled in the box by the goalkeeper.

Diego Forlán had a number of chances from long-range before Antonio López put Atlético 2-0 up with a free kick in the 66th minute.

Zaragoza pulled a goal back five minutes later when substitute Ewerthon scored a 71st-minute penalty after Tomáš Ujfaluši was booked for a challenge on Javier Arizmendi inside the area.
