Real Madrid drew their first blank of the season on as they were held to a goalless draw by Sporting Gijón at El Molinón.
Missing Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuaín, Karim Benzema and Ruud van Nistelrooy in attack, Real were stifled by the home side in the first half and, although they improved after the break, still struggled to create more than a handful of chances in wet conditions.
