Premier League: Wigan 1-1 Man City

Monday, October 19, 2009

Manchester City lost a chance to go third and put the pressure on the leaders after being held to a 1-1 draw at Wigan Athletic.

The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Hugo Rodallega released a stinging cross-shot which Shay Given saved at full stretch only for Charles N'Zogbia to slide home the loose ball.

City got back on level terms within 65 seconds of the restart as Carlos Tévez raced down the right and centred, Shaun Wright-Phillips dummied, and Martin Petrov swept the ball home from the edge of the area.

Mark Hughes' men went down to 10 men when defender Pablo Zabaleta received a second yellow card with 25 minutes left, but despite their numerical advantage Wigan had to settle for a point.
