Genoa proved far too strong for Sampdoria as they saw off their local rivals 3-0 in a local derby featuring two penalties and three red cards.
Omar Milanetto scored a first-half penalty and Marco Rossi doubled the lead shortly into the second half. Raffaele Palladino then scored a second penalty to wrap up the victory.
Giuseppe Biava was sent off in the 45th minute with Sampdoria's Rossi following him in the 66th minute and Fabrizio Cacciatore leaving the visitors with nine men in the 88th minute.
