De Rossi wants to do a Totti

Saturday, December 19, 2009

AS Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi is hoping to follow in Francesco Totti's footsteps and remain at the Giallorossi until the end of his career.

De Rossi, who wore the captain's armband in Totti's absence during the 3-0 win over CSKA Sofia in the Europa League on Wednesday night, has rejected claims linking him with a move to Chelsea or Real Madrid.

"I have already spoken with the club. There shouldn't be any problems," De Rossi said in Football Italia.

When asked about Totti's new contract, he said: "It hasn't surprised me that Totti signed. The real surprise would have been if he hadn't.

"He is the most important player in Roma's history. Strange arguments are always raised. There are too many inexplicable doubts about him.

"He is the player who has scored the most goals in the last 10 years. He has plodded along for this team in difficult moments in which others would have left.

"You shouldn't look at the figures. All the Roma fans should be happy with the contract renewal. I ask myself if they will find a stronger player than him in the next 30 years."
