Heavy snow wrecks Serie A schedule

Sunday, December 20, 2009

Heavy snowfall has caused chaos in Italy this weekend and several Serie A matches have already been cancelled.

AC Milan will not have the chance to gain ground on Serie A leaders Inter Milan before the end of the year after their match at Fiorentina was postponed.

According to Sky Sports, the match will now be played in the New Year after the possibility of playing it on Sunday was ruled out following a meeting that included the Mayor of Florence and local police.

Saturday's other scheduled match between Bologna and Atalanta was also postponed, while four Serie B games were called off.

It later emerged Udinese's encounter with Cagliari at the Stadio Friuli scheduled for Sunday afternoon has also fallen foul of the cold-snap and will be played at a later date.
