Braces from Kaká and Gonzalo Higuaín helped Real Madrid thrashed Villarreal 6-2 to stay within two points of La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a dipping freekick and Kaká doubled their lead from the penalty spot two minutes later after Ivan Marcano tripped Higuaín.
Marcos Senna's superb 31st-minute free-kick pulled one back for Villarreal, but Higuaín restored Real's two goal advantage when he converted Ronaldo's low right-wing cross.
Villarreal fought back to 3-2 with a goal from Nilmar in the 66th minute, but three goals in the final 20 minutes from Higuaín, Kaká and a Xabi Alonso put the home side out of sight.
