Shunsuke Nakamura returns to Japan

Saturday, February 27, 2010

Shunsuke Nakamura will return to Japan for the first time in eight years after a deal was completed between Spanish club Espanyol and Yokohama F Marinos.

It had been expected that Nakamura would join Yokohama last summer when he left Glasgow Celtic after four years in Scotland, but the deal broke down and Espanyol stepped in.

The 31-year-old signed a two-year deal but has struggled to find his place in the team of the Barcelona-based club and has spent most of his time on the bench

"CD Espanyol and Yokohama Marinos have reached an agreement for the transfer of Shunsuke Nakamura, who will join the Japanese side in the coming days," read a statement on Espanyol's official website.

The club gave no financial details but according to Spanish media the deal was worth just €1.5 million.
