England's World Cup 2010

Sunday, April 18, 2010

As the World Cup in South Africa gets nearer and nearer, jounalists in England are already speculating as to the country's chances in the competition.

England has always had a lot of expectation placed on it before any major tournament, and this year will be no different, apart from the fact that it may be justified.

Under the guidance of Fabio Capello, the country stormed through the qualifying stages without losing only once.

The Three Lions open the campaign against the USA, arguably their toughest opponents in the group stages.

At Party Bets you can get odds of 8/15 for England to win the game, with the USA obvious outsiders at 5/1.

If you think that a win in the opening game will set England up for a successful campaign, then back them at 6/1 to be outright winners - they are third favourites behind Spain and Brazil.

A lot of hope rests on Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. He has been in wonderful form for his club team this season, scoring over 30 goals, and if he can carry this over into the Summer, he is a real contender for top scorer.

At 9/1, he is joint-favourite with David Villa and Lionel Messi, both of whom will be serious competition for the Golden Boot award.
