La Liga: Sevilla 3-0 Sporting Gijón

Sunday, April 18, 2010

Sevilla kept their hopes of Champions League football very much alive by securing a comfortable 3-0 home win over nine-man Sporting Gijón.

Frédéric Kanouté headed Sevilla ahead after just seven minutes and Sporting's hopes of getting back into the game were dealt a blow when Mate Bilić was sent off in the 31st minute for receiving two yellow cards for dangerous challenges.

The lead was doubled shortly after half-time when Luís Fabiano headed Adriano's cross into the top right corner from the edge of the six-yard box.

A miserable night got worse for the visitors as José Ángel Valdés was sent off for a second bookable offence with 11 minutes remaining and Juan Cala tapped in a third goal shortly afterwards.
