Cristiano Ronaldo caught up in spit storm

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Cristiano Ronaldo faces accusations of spitting towards a TV cameraman after Portugal's World Cup exit last night.

Ronaldo angrily gestured at the cameraman to get out of his way as he trudged off the pitch following his side's 1-0 loss to Spain in their second round match at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town.

Certainly there are more pressing questions to take away from the match, but as the camera got right up next to Ronaldo, he looked at the cameraman following him and appeared to spit at the feet of the cameraman.

Whether it was intentional or not is unclear, Ronaldo's spit appeared to the global audience to be directed towards them in an ugly act that could upset many of the fans of one of football's most marketable men.

In the 2006 World Cup it was a wink to the Portuguese bench after Wayne Rooney was sent off in England's quarterfinal loss to Portugal that turned some fans against the Real Madrid star.

This time his lasting World Cup image could be a wad of spit.
