Zanetti wants Mascherano in Inter Milan

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Inter Milan skipper Javier Zanetti has encouraged Argentina team-mate Javier Mascherano to leave Liverpool and join him at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri are believed to have made Mascherano one of their top summer transfer targets with Rafa Benítez keen to be reunited with the 26-year-old.

Zanetti is also a fan of the midfielder and believes that he would be a great signing for the Champions League holders.

"Mascherano? He's a great player, who retrieves a lot of balls. He would suit to Inter," Zanetti told Sky Italia.

Inter sporting director Marco Branca also refused to rule out a move for Mascherano, who is also a target for Barcelona.

"I can say that he is a great player," he said.

"There are good players that we can take and others that cannot be taken. It depends from the requests of the clubs."
