Bayern Munich forward Thomas Müller has been rewarded a five-year contract extension as the club seek to secure one of their prize assets for the long term.

The 20-year-old was a revelation at the World Cup as he helped Germany to third place in South Africa, winning the Golden Boot after scoring five goals and providing three assists as well taking the Best Young Player Award.

His performances have led to reports the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid could look to make an approach, but Müller has now committed his future to the Bundesliga champions.

"FC Bayern rewards performances and the performances of Thomas Müller last season were extraordinary," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club's official website.

"Thomas has given a lot of pleasure to us and to football fans.

"He won the league, the DFB-Pokal, reached the Champions League final with the team and was the top goalscorer and Best Young Player at the World Cup in South Africa.

"We are delighted that his long-term future lies with FC Bayern."

Müller added: "Last season, a dream came true for me.

"Bavaria is my home, FC Bayern is my club. I am delighted that I will continue to wear the FC Bayern shirt for the next five years."
