Defending champions Inter Milan are now second in the Serie A standings as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Sampdoria.
Inter fell behind after just over an hour when Antonio Cassano robbed Cristian Chivu of possession and found Stefano Guberti, whose volley was met by Júlio César, but the ball looped up and crossed the line before he could recover.
Sampdoria looked on course for all three points until in-form Nerazzurri striker Samuel Eto'o poked home with 10 minutes remaining to level things up and earn a point.
