Rafa Benítez: Stop whining and start winning, Roy!

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benítez has launched a withering attack on successor Roy Hodgson, fuming: "Stop whining and start winning".

Hodgson, who has suffered a difficult start to his tenure and the job of succeeding the popular Benítez, has continually criticised the quality of the players left behind by his predecessor.

But the Inter Milan boss produced one his famous Rafa Rants to rip Hodgson to shreds, accusing the former Fulham manager of underachieving with his new signings and suggesting he does not fully understand the intricacies of life at Anfield.

Benítez told a press conference: "I feel that Mr Hodgson, he doesn't understand.

"Every single press conference is worse than the last one. He's talking about things he doesn't know.

"And some people cannot see a priest on a mountain of sugar. He doesn't understand, maybe he has been in Liverpool for not so long.

"We gave the fans the pride. Again. We fight for the fans, we fight for the club and we fight for our players. Maybe he cannot understand this."

Once again defending his dealings in the transfer market during a six-year reign that ended in the summer, Benítez said: "They've signed nine players.

"With £10 million net spending, I left that squad with £300 million value, thirteen internationals.

"So, instead of talking about flips and flops, he has to concentrate on his job, try to do his best and not talk about the level of his players or the new players.

"Concentrate, try to do your best because it will be the best for the club and it will be the best for the fans."
