It was a disastrous season for the Blucheriati who were dropped back from Serie A to Serie B following an 18th place finish.

And one club who loved this development is city rivals Genoa. Now the port city only has one team left in Italy's top flight, and it's the Grifone.

Not content to let Sampdoria fans wallow away in quiet sorrow, Genoa fans held a five-minute moment of silence during their last game against Cesena to "mourn" the passing of their neighbours.

Afterwards 30,000 people poured into the streets to hold a huge mock funeral for despised local rivals Sampdoria, parading a coffin draped in blue through the city.
