The Italian international was offered a new deal until 2016 last autumn, but he refused to put pen to paper while he considered his options.

"I have decided not to renew my contract," Montolivo told Italian news agency ANSA.

"Fiorentina have always been my priority. I love this shirt, but the doubts that saw me take time to reflect have still not gone away.

"It is not a question of money or the project, it is just that something has changed – the atmosphere and the Della Valle family who for work reasons have moved further and further away."

The 26-year-old has been strongly linked with Bayern Munich in recent weeks, but he insists he has spoken to nobody.

He added: "I want to make it clear that I haven't agreed anything with any other club.

"I put myself at the total disposal of Fiorentina so we can decide in unison the right decision for the future.

"Nevertheless, if the club want to keep me until the end of my contract in 2012 then there will be no problems. I'll stay with joy."
