The Chile international is currently in Argentina preparing for the Copa America while a host of European clubs all battle for his signature.

City are understood to have offered around €40 million for the player, but Udinese value their prize asset at a staggering €50 million.

"I have spoken to Sanchez and he told me that he was available to join us," Mancini told Sky Italia.

"However, we then ended our interest. We pulled out of the race to sign the Chilean after our last offer was tabled."

Udinese, meanwhile, confirmed the 22-year-old only wants to join European champions Barcelona this summer.

"Have City pulled out of the race?," Gino Pozzo, son of Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo, told Corriere dello Sport. "You should ask them. That's because we have never negotiated with City.

"The boy just wants Barcelona. We're now waiting for Barcelona and talks are going forward. We'll find a solution with calm. Then if the player decides to stay in Udine we'll be happy."
