PSG announced the deal on their Twitter feed on Saturday, without giving any financial details, although reports put the transfer at €42 million.

The previous French record buy was when the Parc des Princes club paid Real Madrid €33.5 million for Nicolas Anelka in 2000.

Speaking just prior to signing a five-year contract with PSG, Pastore said: "I am very eager to begin this new phase. They explained the project and immediately seduced me to the challenge.

"Winning the local tournament and the cup - I want the team to succeed in everything.

"In particular I will give my best in every game. It makes me immensely happy that they trusted me."

PSG were bought by Qatari investors at the end of last season and has already signed three France internationals - striker Kévin Gameiro, winger Jérémy Ménez and midfielder Blaise Matuidi.

The French giants has also signed goalkeepers Nicolas Douchez and Italy international Salvatore Sirigu plus defender Milan Biševac.

Including Pastore's deal, PSG's total outlay this season is around €82 million.
