Spanish Super Cup: Real Madrid 2-2 Barcelona

Monday, August 15, 2011

Bitter rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona remain locked together at 2-2 in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the Bernabéu.

Real broke the deadlock after 13 minutes through Mesut Özil but David Villa drew the Catalans level when he curled a world-class effort around Iker Casillas in the 36th minute.

Barça then edged in front moments before the interval as Lionel Messi bumped off Sami Khedira and past the fallen Pepe into the area before sliding a left-footed shot past Casillas.

But the hosts refused to lie down and restored parity in the 54th minute when Pepe controlled a corner kick and slid a short pass to Xabi Alonso to strike from the edge of the area.
