David Beckham responded to his omission from the British Olympic team by bending in a trademark free-kick in the Los Angeles Galaxy's 4-3 loss at the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.

Earthquakes kicked off the seven-goal thriller by taking the lead through Steven Lenhart just seven minutes into the game.

At the end of a week in which he discovered he had not made the Great Britain squad for the Olympics, Beckham had something to smile about when he equalised with a scintillating free-kick on the half-hour.

Mike Magee set up the opportunity by drawing a foul on the edge of the penalty area, and a flat-footed Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch could only watch Beckham's masterfully struck free kick sail into the upper corner at the near post.

An own goal from Jason Hernandez and Landon Donovan's strike made it 3-1 for the Galaxy, but Víctor Bernárdez pulled one back before the break.

Sam Cronin equalised two minutes after the restart and Chris Wondolowski completed the comeback in the 61st minute.

After the final whistle blew, Beckham attempted to fight everyone and refused to be restrained by his teammates as his disappointing week continued.
