The former Barcelona and Inter Milan star is currently playing for big spending Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, and it appears that he has a great deal of time on his hands.

Eto'o has become a football icon after 15 years in the game as a professional and he is keen for fans to learn a little more about his rise to the top.

"I wanted to share my experience with young people. Samuel Eto'o wasn't always the billionaire that many people present him as," he said in a promo video for the comic.

"Behind all that there was a lot of work. And it's that work that I want to highlight."

"The birth of a champion" is the name of the series which will be illustrated by fellow Cameroon native Joëlle Esso.

The first of nine volumes, which is written in French, will tell the story of his childhood selling fish on the streets of Douala, and goes on sale, in France, at the end of January.
