The Dons went three goals ahead by half-time thanks to Niall McGinn's free kick, a close-range strike from Calvin Zola, and a Michael Hector stunner.

Hector's strike was almost outdone just seconds later, though, as Higginbotham saw Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield off his line and fired a shot from the half way line.

However, his outrageous piece of skill was thwarted when the ball bounced back off the crossbar and fell to safety.

McGinn then rounded off an impressive performance with his second of the game four minutes from time.
