Bayern Munich star Franck Ribéry has revealed that his compatriot Zinedine Zidane did his utmost to persuade him to move to Real Madrid years ago.
The France international has been a key player at the Allianz Arena for a number of seasons and has has been subject of interest from both Madrid and Barcelona in the past.
And the 30-year-old has now admitted that Zidane very nearly convinced him to move to the Bernabéu.
In an interview with beIN Sport, Ribéry said: "Barcelona and Madrid are both very big clubs. There was a time when the two of them were interested in me.
"I liked them both, but I felt closer to Real Madrid than to Barcelona. Zidane absolutely wanted me to join Madrid and tried everything to sign me. But I stayed (with Bayern)."
