Dimitri Payet netted a sumptuous goal as Olympique Marseille cruised to a 3-0 home win over mid-table Bastia on Saturday.

The hosts looked to stamp their authority on the match from the start, with Mathieu Valbuena, Florian Thauvin, and Payet all looking in the mood.

Payet needed little more than 10 minutes to open his account as the former Lille winger volleyed beyond Mickaël Landreau with the aid of a slight deflection.

There was an element of luck involved for the goal, but Payet can take full credit for his second.

After a pegged-back Bastia side had failed to adequately clear the ball, Benjamin Mendy played Payet in from the left flank.

The 26-year-old was allowed time and space to carry the ball forward before unleashing a sublime curling effort from 20 yards into the top corner.

André-Pierre Gignac added a third with his 11th league strike of the season in the 55th minute to wrap up all three points.

"That's what Dimitri is like. He's got a good touch, he's talented," Marseille coach José Anigo said afterwards.

"We worked on Payet playing in a deeper role this week. Sometimes you sense things in training. Maybe it won't ever work again, but today it worked."
