Champions League Preview: Man United vs Bayern Munich

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Reigning champions Bayern Munich travel to Manchester United today, as they bid to be the first team in the Champions League era to record back-to-back titles.

The obvious match that stands out between both sides is the famous 1999 Champions League final last-minute comeback victory by United.

However, since then, these European giants have locked horns six times, with the Germans winning on three occasions and losing just once.

That one defeat, the last battle between the two, came at the same stage (quarter-finals, but the second leg), with United coming out 3-2 victors at Old Trafford in 2010.

United play hosts again to Bayern today, but David Moyes' side are big outside chances to win the fixture.

The Red Devils have found it difficult when facing top teams at home recently.

Both neighbours Manchester City and bitter rivals Liverpool came to Old Trafford in Premier League action, and netted three times each without reply.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola's side are certainly a team in fine form, having won 19 out of their last 20 Bundesliga matches. They drew their most recent result after fielding a weakened side.
