Man United loanee axed from Frankfurt due to infected tattoo

Thursday, May 25, 2017

Manchester United loanee Guillermo Varela has had his loan terminated by Eintracht Frankfurt after he went against the wishes of club doctors to get a tattoo - which has since resulted in inflammation.

The 24-year-old was due to start for Frankfurt against Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal final on Saturday, but he has now been axed from the squad.

Frankfurt's club doctors instructed Varela to delay his tattoo but the Uruguayan full-back disobeyed the orders and decided to get it anyway.

Unfortunately, his decision has subsequently back-fired rather significantly as his tattoo has become inflamed, forcing him to receive treatment.

Varela, whose loan from United was due to run until June 30, has now been suspended by Frankfurt after sporting director Fredi Bobic described his conduct as "reckless" in a statement on the club's official website.

This behaviour is grossly negligent and hurts the entire team.

Guillermo's path at Eintracht ends here. The club can't put up with a player acting against the coach's and doctors' instructions.

We were already considering extending his loan. But that is of course no longer an issue.

Guillermo will be suspended with immediate effect and he will be given a personal punishment.
