Premier League round-up: Arsenal shot down; Liverpool beat Boro

Sunday, August 24, 2008

Arsenal went down 1-0 against Fulham in the London derby at Craven Cottage.

Centre-back Brede Hangeland scored the only goal of the match to give the Cottagers just their second victory over Arsenal since 1966.

Despite having most of the possession they couldn't find a way past Mark Schwarzer, and suffered their first defeat of the season in only their second match.

Steven Gerrard once again came to Liverpool's rescue with a stunning long-range winner to seal all three points for the Kop.

Middlesbrough looked to have sealed a shock victory when supersub Mido, who was on target in last week's win over Tottenham, gave them the lead in the 67th minute.

With time running out, a stroke of luck turned things in their favour when Jamie Carragher's shot from the edge of the box deflected off Emanuel Pogatetz to beat Ross Turnbull.

And Gerrard's stunning effort in the dying seconds gave Liverpool their second win of the season.
