Buffon and Camoranesi to miss World Cup qualifiers

Friday, October 10, 2008

Juventus and Italy duo Gianluigi Buffon and Mauro Camoranesi will miss their country's World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Montenegro due to injury.

Both players have suffered thigh strains but Buffon has sustained a muscle tear in his right leg and is set to be out of action for a month, while winger Camoranesi will be sidelined for at least two weeks.

The likes of Marco Materazzi, Fabio Grosso, Marco Cassetti, Marco Borriello, Andrea Pirlo, Nicola Legrottaglie and Vincenzo Iaquinta will also miss the matches due to injury.

Azzurri coach Marcello Lippi called up Siena keeper Gianluca Curci as a third goalkeeper, while Palermo's Marco Amelia is likely to replace Buffon in the starting line-up.

The defending champions, who top qualifying Group 8 with six points, travel to Bulgaria on Saturday before playing host to Montenegro four days later.
