Deco tips Quaresma to be a hit at Chelsea

Thursday, February 5, 2009

Chelsea midfielder Deco believes his fellow countryman Ricardo Quaresma will make a positive impact in the Premier League.

The Portuguese winger joined the Blues on transfer deadline day from Inter Milan on a initial loan-deal until the end of the season, allegedly beating off competition for the player's signature from London rivals Tottenham.

The 25-year-old has failed to impress since joining Inter from Porto last summer, culminating in José Mourinho omitting him from the club’s final squad for the latter stages of the Champions League.

Deco, however, reckons his international team-mate will prove to be a valuable addition to Luiz Felipe Scolari's side.

"Quaresma is young but has improved a great deal in recent times," he told The Daily Mail.

"He can be a very good reinforcement for Chelsea with many decisive moments in the season coming up.

"The Premier League may suit Quaresma more than in Italy. I believe he can have more success here.

"I am surprised it did not work out for him at Inter, especially as it was José Mourinho who wanted to sign him last summer.

"He is a player with fight, determination, swiftness and great vision on the field. He can make things happen and unlock opposition defences.

"On the ball he is a fantastic talent and can dribble at pace. He is a great player to watch and he will excite the fans."

Meanwhile, Quaresma himself has vowed to prove his qualities wrong during his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.

He said: "I want is to show what I am made of, to show hard work, to show all my qualities here.

"I can promise is I am going to work very hard, I am going to give my best.

"I am going to prove that I deserve to be in this team and that I am the right player to help Chelsea achieve their goals.

"Obviously Chelsea is a great club and it has great quality players and I am very proud that I can have the chance to represent such a great club.

"With all the other Portuguese players I am sure it is going to be easier for me and I am very glad to be here with them."
