Catania striker Giuseppe Mascara claims his miraculous goal against Palermo wasn't just a stroke of luck, insisting that he intended to score.
An early contender for goal of the year, the 29-year-old scored a wonder goal from almost the halfway line with a volley to make it 3-0 just before the interval.
The goal was all the more amazing for its being a first-time volley that sailed with perfect accuracy into the net from about 50 yards.
"I saw that the Palermo goalkeeper was off his line and felt like having a kick," Mascara said to Sky after the match.
"Is it my best goal? I had scored a similar one at San Siro, but this one, again, has a special flavour.
"To do so in the Derby di Sicilia is worth double."
