A Frederic Kanouté hat-trick helped Sevilla saw off giantkillers Real Valladolid 4-1 at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

The home side opened the scoring with their first attack on eight minutes. Ndri Romaric broke free and released Kanouté, who took one touch with his left foot before drilling a low right-footed shot across Justo Villar from the edge of the box.

Henok Goitom drew Valladolid level in the 22nd minute as he escaped his marker in the six-yard box to head home Fabián Canobbio's free-kick from the right.

Kanouté put Sevilla back in front two minutes before the break as the ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker volleyed home a fine effort from 12 yards out.

Sevilla increased the advantage before the hour mark as Luís Fabiano burst onto Adriano's through-ball and coolly rounded Villar before slotting into an empty net.

Five minutes later Fabiano should have doubled his tally but he sent a downward header against the foot of the post with the goalkeeper seemingly stranded.

Kanouté completed his hat-trick on 70 minutes when he powered home a header from 10 yards out to round off the scoring and seal a deserved triumph for Manolo Jiménez's side.
